From Darkness to Light by Marcus Earl
Ephesians 5:13-14 (ESV), 13“But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,
14for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
I remember as a young teenager, I would hide the cordless house phone in my room so I could stay up past my bedtime and talk to my friends. I remember late one night my father opened the door and turned on the light suddenly. Blinded by the light, I quickly tried to cover up my transgression, but it was too late. He took the phone and as a result I stopped being so tired for school, my focus on schoolwork improved, and I even saw improvement in sports.
Luke 8:17 says, “Whatever is done in the dark will always come to the light.”
You see, exposing light into the darkness is the beginning of something beautiful. Sure, the dark hides some pretty ugly things, but those things begin to be transformed into something beautiful as Jesus shines on them.
That was not my last attempt to keep aspects of my life hidden in the dark, but it was a lesson that I continued to learn from. As the light of His Word and His presence continues to expose things in my life, I welcome the growth that ensues.
Today I challenge you to allow the light of God’s Word, and His presence into every corner of your life. Do not be scared by what may be exposed, but be excited by the call to holiness!
