Thankfulness by Emmanuel Garcia
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” Psalms 100:4 KJV
How does someone sincerely show they’re grateful? What does a thankful life look like?
When I think of thankfulness, I think of a story I read of a child in the slums of India: “upon receiving an ice cream cone the boy was so overjoyed and excited that he took a few licks and began sharing the ice cream with other children.” Did you get that? A child in the SLUMS of India was so thankful for the small gift he received that he didn’t want to keep it for himself, but wanted to share his small blessing with others. How can we gain this attitude? How can we express thankfulness in such a way that we want others to partake or experience why we are thankful?
Being thankful is an attitude that says, “I want to share why I’m thankful.” Thankfulness comes from receiving something that deep down inside, we believe we don’t deserve. It can be an unexpected blessing that we receive causing us to utter, “thank you.” So many things can cause us to be thankful. It can be something as simple as someone holding the door, or something as powerful as receiving a spiritual attribute from the Lord.
It doesn’t just stop at receiving; Our attitude towards the blessing/gift is where we truly express thankfulness. How do we respond when we receive a blessing or gift? How do we respond when God clothes us with grace and mercy? Our lives need to radiate thankfulness. People need to see it in our lives. More than ever, this world needs to see our lives exemplify a thankful heart for the salvation he has freely given us. Let’s show the world why we are thankful, then perhaps they’ll desire what we posses. Let us share our gratitude with this lost world.
